Villages in Telangana to go cashless from January 11

Panchayat Raj minister Jupally Krishna Rao said that around 5,000 hamlets don’t have banks.

HYDERABAD: The State government is now focusing on providing banking services to around 5,000 villages, which do not have any bank branches. Of the 36 lakh Aasara pensioners, around 4.5 lakh pensioners do not have bank accounts and taking Aasara pensions in cash. “We have asked the bankers to adopt these 5,000 villages and to provide banking services from the nearest branches. Bank accounts for all the Aasara pensioners too will be opened.

This process will be completed by January 10. And from January 11 onwards all the village panchayats in the State will start cashless transactions,” Panchayat Raj minister Jupally Krishna Rao said. Rao said that from January 11, payment of water cess and property tax would be accepted only in cashless mode. The required point of sale (PoS) machines or swiping machines would be provided to all village panchayats enabling them to accept payment of utility bills at panchayats through cashless mode, the Minister said.For this, the Minister has constituted a committee of officials.

Let Assembly discuss demonetisation, NVSS Prabhakar tells TRS government

Hyderabad: The state government should take measures to discuss burning issues, including the impact of demonetisation, in the winter session of the Assembly which is scheduled to begin on Dec 16. “It has become a habit for the TRS government to hold the Assembly session every time just for record sake. In order to fulfil the constitutional obligation, the government merely holds the session every time instead of giving scope to discuss people’s issues on the floor of the House,” he said.

Etela requests RBI to send small denomination notes to Telangana

Hyderabad: The state government has requested the RBI to send small denomination notes to TS immediately.  “Though the Central government’s demonetisation is good, people are still facing problems. Though, banks are supposed to give Rs 24,000 per week to every account holder, they are not giving sufficient money,” Finance Minister Etela Rajender said. He along with CS K Pradeep Chandra held a review with bankers at the Secretariat.
