HYDERABAD: A division bench of the Hyderabad High Court has admitted a public interest litigation petition filed seeking directions to the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to remove the existing unauthorised religious structures in public places.

The bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice A Shankar Narayana was dealing with the PIL filed by Mamidi Venu Madhav, advocate of the city, who sought both the governments to implement the policy enshrined in GO Ms No.262 dated March 31, 2010 issued by the erstwhile united AP government under which a policy was framed to remove the unauthorised constructions of religious nature in public places.

The bench found fault with the petitioner for making the chief ministers of both the states as respondents. Any government is represented by its secretary or principal secretary before the court, the bench said and deleted the chief ministers from the array of respondents in the present case.
While adjourning the case by four weeks, the bench directed both the states to file its counter affidavits in the matter.
