Telangana Tourism department staffers stage protest in Hyderabad

Close to 350 people from across all districts of the state gathered at the Telangana Tourism House in Himayatnagar.

HYDERABAD: Close to 350 people from across all districts of the state gathered at the Telangana Tourism House in Himayatnagar to put forth their concerns. The members of Telangana Tourism Corporation Employees Union had four main demands.

“Our first demand is that contract employees be regularised. There are 260 of us and some of us have been in service for close to 15 years. We want these jobs to be regularised. In a board meeting that was held one-and-half years ago, this was decided. But nothing has been done yet,” rued S Rajamouli, General Secretary, Contract, Outsourced Employees Union.

They also demanded that there is equal pay for equal work for both permanent and contract employees as that was the case in United Andhra Pradesh. “After the formation of Telangana State, we are getting paid lesser than what we used to get,” said Rajamouli.

Arrears of outsourced employees, who mostly comprise bus drivers, boat drivers, cooks, waiters etc have not reached them yet. The members also raised this point at the dharna. “They were told that salaries have been increased and hence we wouldn’t pay. This needs to be taken care of,” added Rajamouli.

Daily wage workers in the corporation who also include cleaners, waiters, drivers have no health insurance in case of an accident or emergency informed Rajamouli. “We want them to be made into contract employees so that one day they can have access to basic benefits and will eventually become regular employees,” added Rajamouli.
