Revenue and Group-1 officers show dissent over TAS guidelines

HYDERABAD: Though the state government proposed to float Telangana Administrative Service (TAS) to fill up some key posts with the State government employees rather than the All India Services (AIS) officers, the Revenue and Group-1 officers differed over the guidelines of the TAS.

The official committee on TAS headed by special chief secretary MG Gopal held discussions with the Revenue and Group-1 officers at the Secretariat here on Tuesday.

Revenue officers Association representatives Shiva Shankar (Services) and Lachireddy (Tahsildars Association) urged Gopal to allow three months to Revenue Association to give its detailed opinion on TAS.
Revenue officials contended that the State Administrative Services were there in several states, but in all those States, Revenue officials were promoted to the top posts, which were normally filled with AIS officers.
However, the Group-1 officers submitted a report to the State government that all Group-1 officers should be considered, for the top posts under TAS. The revenue officials sought three months time so that they could submit their views on TAS.

The state government proposed to start TAS so that it need not depend much on AIS officers. States like Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Bihar had State Administrative Services. and will not take many AIS officers from the Union department of personnel and training and fill up certain key posts.
