KAMAREDDY : Energy minister G Jagadish Reddy said the state government will announce a new programme to encourage solar power generation in every house. “The programme will will be announced soon by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao,” he said.
Reddy inaugurated a 143 MW solar power generation project which was established by a private company (Re-New Power Organisation), with an investment of `1,000 crore in Dharmaraopet village in Yellareddy Assembly constituency in Kamareddy district on Saturday
Addressing the meeting, he said the state government has been actively encouraging renewable power and as a part of that, they decided to increase people’s participation in solar power generation.
“For this, the state government decided to launch the new programme through which solar plates will be installed on every house and this will also help domestic consumers reduce their monthly power bills,” he said. This programme will be taken up in coordination with the Union government.
The Energy minister claimed that Telangana had become number one in solar power generation by taking over Gujarat and Rajasathan states which were producing anywhere between 1,500 to 1,600 MW power, whereas Telangana state had been producing 1,700 MW power.
He said that in August, the state would be producing 3,000 MW of power and become self-sufficient.
“The state political leadership right from Chief Minister to Village level Sarpanch have clear cut political commitment for development of Telangana.
Due to this, several national and international organisations are coming forward to set up their units and on the same lines Re-New power organisation completed the project in record period of only 10 to 15 months,” Reddy said. Re-New Power organisation, CEO Sumant Sinha said that the Solar Project was set up in a record period and this would help the state become number one in solar power generation sector.
Plant marks new phase of investments in the area
ReNew Power, a power sector company established a 143 MW power generation project in Kamareddy district on Saturday.
Some locals and elected representatives hope that this recent investment might help generate employment in an area once affected by Left Wing Extremists (LWE) Kamareddy is an upland area, not suitable for any farming and farmers depended on only rains and borewells. Earlier, there hadn’t been any government interest in establishing many industries or power plants by utilising unconventional means.
After formation was Telangana state, ReNew power officials contacted government and expressed interest in state government’s new industrial policies with regard to Telangana State Industrial Project Approval Scheme (TSIPAS). The company’s representatives felt that there were efforts on part of the new government to promote easy of doing business. Moreover, local public representatives helped establish a solar project in Dharmrao pet village near Kamareddy.
“By investing `1,000 crore they established the plant and provided employment to 1,000 and very soon they would provide employment to another 300 youth in the unit,” ReNew power CEO Sumant Sinha told reporters.
Sinha said that they had established 510 MW power plant in Telagana in several places, adding that they had invested around `4,000 crore in these ventures.
