To snap or not to snap ties with BJP is TTDP’s question

HYDERABAD: When the TDP leaders met their party chief N Chandrababu in Amaravati on Tuesday, a major question that cropped up before them was whether or not to continue alliance with BJP in TS.
While the BJP is part of TDP government in Andhra Pradesh, the leaders from Telangana are confused as to whether they should sail with the saffron party in Telangana or not?

On Tuesday, the TTDP leaders held discussions with Naidu on a number of issues including strengthening the party base in TS, party’s preparedness in case of early polls, and others.

It is learnt that the TTDP leaders told Naidu that the BJP is going aggressive in Telangana and plans to go alone for polls. It may be recalled that in the 2014 Assemble election, the BJP-TDP fought together in Telangana. However, the ties between the two parties have slowly reached an ebb and the saffron party leaders were of the view that if they want to get the support of people, they need to fight alone.

When the TTDP leaders brought the issue before Naidu, the latter reportedly said there is nothing wrong in a party, particularly when it is in the opposition, to strengthen its base on its own. “They might be part of our government in Andhra, but this cannot stop them from going away from us in Telangana,’’ Naidu reportedly told the leaders, but assured to take up the issue with BJP central leadership.

Reacting to this, BJP state chief K Laxman said that the TDP cannot stop it from strengthening base in the state. The state BJP, for long, has been asking its leadership to snap ties with TDP but high command has not taken a decision as the parties share power in AP as well as Centre.
