Police didn’t act after Dalit was assaulted: Report on former Hajipalli village sarpanch attack

According to the report, police did not take action as Congress workers allegedly attacked the woman for the first time on June 16, 2016.

HYDERABAD: A fact finding report by Dalit Sthree Sakhthi (DSS) in connection with the abuse on grounds of caste and assault of Chedrupalli Jangamma, a former sarpanch of Hajipalli village, Rangareddy alleged that the incident was a consequence of Shadnagar police’s callousness.

According to the report, police did not take action as Congress workers allegedly attacked the woman for the first time on June 16, 2016. The report states that had the cops taken immediate action against the accused, the second heinous attack against her on Feb 17 could have been prevented.

“On the date of the incident, while Jangamma was building a room in her house, Isnati Srisalam’s (Congress worker) sons entered her house and started abusing her verbally.

They threatened her of dire consequences if she didn’t withdraw her complaint. Then, they pushed her and she fell on the iron rods and got severely injured. They also assaulted and abused her son Shankar. The accused then abused her in front of the village,” report said.

DSS claims that Jangamma filed a second police complaint against the accused.  “Jangamma should be compensated. Police should file chargesheet,” a DSS representative demanded.
