HYDERABAD: The nine-member NAAC team’s three-day visit to Osmania University ended on Saturday, with the team pointing out that the varsity needs to step up to fill up its vacancies.  OU which has been vying for an A++ grading, however, feels that varsity will score well in all other parameters.
Currently, the varsity does not have any rating, as the last accreditation was valid from 2008 till 2013. This year it was aiming for the highest grade. Nearly 25 percent of the teaching staff in OU is vacant. “The team did point out that we need to recruit more staff. They were informed that we have a temporary staff to take care of these posts and that the government had given its nod for the recruitment. Also, studies are not disrupted because of lack of teaching faculty,” said Gopal Reddy, Registrar.

On the first two days of inspection, the team divided itself into three-member teams to visit different colleges and offices. The last day was spent compiling the report. The final outcome is expected to be made public soon.“As such nothing negative was said but they questioned why there were no Ph.D. admissions between 2013 and 2017 despite the UGC norms that states admissions have to take place every year.

They also enquired about the status of campus placements and also why the research journals were not listed department wise,” said assistant professor Dr. CH Parandamulu. The teams also checked the attendance registers, computer labs, libraries, book and journals published by the faculty, number of research scholars.
