Torrential rains wreak havoc in North Telangana districts

District administration instructed mandal-level officials to take measures and evacuate people from the low lying areas.

KHAMMAM/NIZAMABAD/ADILABAD/BHUPALPALLY: Incessant rains continue to wreak havoc in North Telangana districts on Sunday.  With a person being washed away while crossing a checkdam in Kamareddy district, Godavari river rising steadily at Bhadrachalam prompted the authorities to caution people living on the banks of the river to be ready to evacuate in case of more inflows.

A woman was forced to deliver in an auto as the road connectivity got cut due to overflowing waters in Bhadradri Kothagudem district. With river Godavari swelling with increase in heavy inflows, the flood level at Bhadrachalam touched 22 feet and according to information it might rise further in the next few days.

District administration instructed mandal-level officials to take measures and evacuate people from the low lying areas. Officials have sounded red alert and had kept teams ready to take up rescue operations.
On the other hand, officials lifted seven more gates of Taliepru project and released 21,000 cusecs of water into Godavari river.

Due to heavy rain in Chhattishgarh, Taliperu reservoir has been receiving huge inflows since Saturday. With heavy rainfall lashing the Agency areas, all small, medium streams and tanks have been overflowing. Many interior tribal hamlets have been cut off from the roads.

People of erstwhile Adilabad district are also facing hardship due to heavy rains. Kaddem project was getting inflows of 70,253 cusecs and at present its water-level has touched  696.400 feet. The project’s FRL is 700 feet. In the last 24 hours, Nizamabad district received the highest rainfall in Renjal mandal (175.8 mm) and lowest rainfall in Mokal mandal (33.5 mm).

Ramappa temple wall collapses
The compound wall of famous Ramappa Temple, located at Palampet village of Venkatapur mandal in Bhupalpally district collapsed on Saturday night. Sources said that temple authorities were neglecting maintenance of the temple for quite sometime and collapse of the wall was result of their negligence.
