‘Harish Rao should take responsibility’

 PEDDAPALLI : The seventh package works of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation project at Nandi Medaram tank renovation site, damaged and the under-construction earthen bund caved in about 5 meters deep. Cracks also developed in about 200 meters stretch on the top of the bund.Learning over the caving in of earthen bund and low quality works allegedly being done by a benami contractor, Congress activists visited Nandi Medaram tank on Wednesday. The Congress team was led by MLA T Jeevan Reddy. In view of their visit, works were stalled and police personnel were deployed.

The leaders tried to talk to the engineer but failed. They allege that the authorities had switched off their mobile phones. Later, addressing a public meeting at Dharamaram mandal headquarters, Jeevan Reddy said that Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao should take moral responsibility for the incident and resign.

He also demanded suspension of the project chief engineer and conduct an enquiry. The bund formation works started without conducting soil test, Reddy alleged. The MLA said they would write a letter to Central Water Commission soon on the TRS’ failures.
