ACB seizes assets worth Rs 5 cr from temple official

RAJANNA-SIRCILLA : Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths seized huge properties from Namala Rajender who amassed wealth working as Superintendent of Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy temple in Vemulawada on Thursday. Additional SP of ACB T Sudarshan Goud, along with CIs and staff, raided the house of Rajender in Vemulawada and the hpuses of his relatives and friends in Vemulawada and Hyderabad.

The seized properties include `2 crore worth Raja Rajeshwara Lodge, `60 lakh worth house (G plus 2), `1 crore worth land in four guntas on the by-pass road of Vemulawada for which he paid `30 lakh to the land owner Kurma Mallaiah. About 680 grams of gold ornaments were also seized.

With a bank balance of `10 lakh, the total assets belonging to him totalled to `5 crore which is disproportionate to his income, ACB authorities said. About `1 lakh worth foreign liquor bottles were also found. They seized them and handed over to Prohibition and Excise authorities. Excise authorities also registered a case against Rajender.

In the past, he was suspended from service when recycled Kode Mokkulu tickets were found and was later reinstated, Additional SP said that for a long time, many complaints have been received from devotees and employees of the temple. He is also involved in irregularities of his duties. H Goud said that they have taken him into custody and will produce before the ACB court in Karimnagar.

For the last 15 years, he has been working in the temple without any transfer. The raids started around 5 am and it was going on when the last reports came in. It may be recalled that about two days ago, vigilance authorities inspected the temple and received complaints of irregularities and seized temple office records.
