Warangal civic body approves steep hike in water tariff

The GWMC is expected to earn fairly good revenue through this hike as it doubled the security deposit amount and increased the capitation fee by 50 per cent.

WARANGAL: Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) council has given its approval to increase tariff of commercial water tap connections in its jurisdiction. However, it will be applicable to only core city area and not to the newly merged 45 villages from the outskirts.

Meeting after a gap of nine months under the chairmanship of mayor N Narender on Thursday, the council approved the proposal unanimously. The GWMC is expected to earn fairly good revenue through this hike as it doubled the security deposit amount and increased the capitation fee by 50 per cent.

As per the new tariff, those who draw water over 20 kilo litres would be charged an additional Rs 40. Capitation fee for commercial water connection with 3/4 diameter pipe has been increased from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000 and security deposit from Rs 3,000 to Rs 6,000.

For 1 diameter pipe the capitation fee has been increased from Rs 21,000 to Rs 30,000 and security deposit from Rs 4,000 to Rs 8,000. Similarly, capitation fee for 1 1/4 diameter pipe has been increased from Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000 and security deposit from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000.

The corporation would be charging between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 7.5 lakh as capitation fee for apartments depending on the number of flats.

The apartments would also be charged security deposits between Rs 15,000 to Rs 35,000.

The council has even approved the proposal to increase the reconnection charges from Rs 500 to Rs 1000. It also decided to impose penalty of Rs 1000 for illegal tap connections for BPL connections, Rs 5,000 for general connections and Rs 25,000 for commercial connection.
