Tests, medicines to be free at government hospitals: Laxma

The state government wants to ensure that patients visiting government hospitals get a free tests to determine the ailment. It also wants the patients to get medicines free at the hospital.

HYDERABAD: The state government wants to ensure that patients visiting government hospitals get a free tests to determine the ailment. It also wants the patients to get medicines free at the hospital.

At a pre-budget meeting held with officials of his department here on Sunday, health minister C Laxma Reddy asked officials to ensure that the patient need not approach private laboratories for the tests. Stating that there has been a 20 pc increase in the number of out-patients visiting government hospitals, Reddy said health officials should suggest  necessary allocations in the coming budget.

Reddy wanted the officials to see that a pregnant woman is brought to government hospital in a ‘108’ vehicle and taken back home after delivery in a ‘102’ emergency service vehicle. Kits containing commodities which are required after a baby is born should be given to those who deliver babies at government hospitals. The kits would have 17 items including diapers, mosquito net, baby soaps and baby oil. State has seen 2.5 lakh deliveries in govt hospitals this year.
