Seven drown in Telangana on Mahashivratri

Noticing their children drown, their parents raised an alarm and locals rushed to the spot.

HYDERABAD: Mahashivratri festivities turned tragic for four youngsters, who drowned in River Godavari when they went to take a holy dip. In another incident,  three persons were washed away in the river waters in Bhadradri Kothagudem and Mancherial districts of Telangana on Friday.

In the first incident that took place at Chintalabayyaram village in Pinapaka mandal of Kothagudem district, four youngsters drowned in Godavari waters when they entered the river to take a holy dip.

Police said one of the deceased, Murali Krishna entered the deep waters and started to drown. His three friends noticed Murali Krisyhna drowning and rushed to help him. All four drowned in the river.

Noticing their children drown, their parents raised an alarm and locals rushed to the spot. Their efforts to rescue the youngsters, however, went in vain. The bodies of the four youngsters were fished out and a post-mortem was conducted on the spot by government doctors. Later, the bodies were handed over to the parents.

In another incident, three persons drowned in river Godavari at Mulkala village in Mancherial district. Police and rescue workers fished out the body of one of the deceased while expert swimmers are still searching for the remaining two.
