Khammam gears up for Bhaktha Ramadas project inauguration

KHAMMAM: The stage is all set for Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to inaugurate Bhaktha Ramadas lift irrigation project on Tuesday.

According to sources, the CM will inaugurate the project at Erragaddatanda in Kusumanchi mandal in the district at 1.35 pm.

After the inauguration of the project, the CM will proceed to Islavathtanda in Tirumalayapalem mandal and offer prayers  to water released through Bhaktha Ramadas project. Later,  Rao will address a public meeting at Tirumalayapalem mandal headquarters.

Bhaktha Ramadas project was constructed  at a cost of Rs 307 crore to provide water to 60,000 acres dryland areas in Palair constituency.  Chief minister laid the foundation of the project last February.

In a record time, Megha Engineering of Hyderabad completed the project. In fact, the company finished the work two months before the scheduled time.

It is learnt that as many as 60,000 acres in six mandals including Tirumalayapalem, Kusumanchi, Khammam rural, Mudigonda, Nelakondaplli, and Dornakal in Mahaboobabad district will be irrigated and thousands of farmers will be benefited.

Earlier, these six mandals were known as drought mandals as there was no source of water except rainwater for cultivation. Irrigation superintendent engineer Nagaeswara Rao said the project will lift 5 tmc ft water from Palair reservoir.
