Scolded by father, student jumps from college building, dies

Allegedly upset over being scolded by father in front of his professor, a third year engineering student with 18 backlogs ended his life by jumping from the third floor of the college building at Ibrahimpatnam here on Saturday.

HYDERABAD: Allegedly upset over being scolded by father in front of his professor, a third year engineering student with 18 backlogs ended his life by jumping from the third floor of the college building at Ibrahimpatnam here on Saturday. 


The deceased, Chaitanya, son of a police constable, suffered multiple fractures and died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Police booked a case of suspicious death and are investigating.
Kanigiri Bala Venkata Chaitanya (21), a resident of Saroornagar here,  was a third year mechanical engineering student at Sri Indu Engineering College in Ibrahimpatnam. Chaitanya has backlogs in 18 subjects in the last two years. On Saturday, Chaitanya’s father Srinivas went to the college to inquire about his son’s poor performance with the principal. 


“When he was talking with the principal, Chaitanya walked out of the room and jumped from the third floor of the building,”  Ibrahimpatnam police inspector V Swamy said. The boy had suffered multiple fractures to his limbs and severe head injuries. He was rushed to Kamineni hospital in LB Nagar, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said  adding that a case of suspicious death was registered based on a complaint lodged by Srinivas.
