Irrigation database reviewed

Irrigation minister T Harish Rao on Monday reviewed the progress of the geo-spatial database that is being created by irrigation department with the help of NRSC and ISRO.

HYDERABAD: Irrigation minister T Harish Rao on Monday reviewed the progress of the geo-spatial database that is being created by irrigation department with the help of NRSC and ISRO.

The GIS team demonstrated 55 projects, which are digitised so far. The team has digitised the command boundary, entire canal network up to sub-minor level, distributory wise/Water Users Association (WUA)-wise boundary within the command area for 55 major and medium irrigation projects.  
All the major details like the salient features of the project, dam details, ayacut details are made available on the system. Further, 8,177 canals catering to a length of 22,784 km have been digitised and canal attribute information like length of the canal, canal lining information, canal ayacut information etc have been added for 4,000 canals.

So far, 46,000 tanks have been geo-tagged and information related to tank like tank ayacut, phase in which it is taken up, ayacut of tank, photos of bund are made available and demonstrated to minister.
