Radiological emergency mock drill at RGIA

HYDERABAD: A radiological emergency mock drill was recently conducted at the Cargo Terminal of Hyderabad Airport to ascertain response and preparedness based on detection, protection and decontamination of radioactive consignments in case of a radiological emergency.

The aim behind the drill is to ensure that no life is endangered  and no property is damaged on the airport premises. The exercise was conducted by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), in association with GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. For conducting the drill, a scenario was enacted at the cargo terminal, wherein radiological emergency was invoked after information of some radioactive consignment getting exposed to fire at the cargo terminal.
