Recruitment of college lecturers stayed

In a setback to the Telangana State Public Service Commission, the Hyderabad High Court on Monday stayed the conduct of examination to be held on July 30

HYDERABAD: In a setback to the Telangana State Public Service Commission, the Hyderabad High Court on Monday stayed the conduct of examination to be held on July 30 pursuant to the notification issued for recruitment of 546 posts of degree lecturers in residential degree colleges for women in the state.

Justice M S Ramachandra Rao was passing these interim orders in a writ petition filed by S Venkata Narasimha Goud from Warangal complaining that the impugned notification was issued inviting applications only from qualified women candidates for the said posts.

Petitioner’s counsel Bura Ramesh said that the Constitution provides only 33 pc reservation for women, but the notification was issued contrary to it. Elimination of eligible men candidates is nothing but gender discrimination. He urged the court to declare the action of the authorities as illegal and issue directions for issue of fresh notification by giving equal opportunity to men candidates. After hearing the case, the judge felt that the issue of reserving cent percent notified posts for women needs to be looked into seriously and granted interim stay. While adjourning the case, the judge issued notices to the state government and TSPSC for filing counter affidavits on the issue.
