Three years on, Telangana still suffering bifurcation blues

Key promises made under the AP reorganisation Act such as bifurcation of the High Court and establishment of a steel factory in Bayyaram remain unfulfilled

HYDERABAD:  After a decades-long struggle, people of Telangana acheived statehood back in 2014. However, what much fewer people notice is the non-implementation of the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014 (APRA).

Even after three years, the bifurcation of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh is still unfinished, with the bifurcation of the High Court still pending.

The Union government has delayed the bifurcation of the AP High Court but also has not fulfilled various assurances made under the APRA. Most of the promised made in the APRA are not fulfilled yet. Some projects assured under the APRA are yet to take off. The process on bifurcation of High Court has not yet started and the Centre is yet to take steps to set up a steel factory in Bayyaram.

“The bifurcation of the State will not be incomplete, till the judiciary is bifurcated,” CM K Chandrasekhar Rao said recently. However, except the Congress, no one including the TRS leaders  said anything against the unfulfilled promises under APRA during the third formation day of the State.

The CM and MPs of TRS represented the Centre on the pending issues several times, they did not highlight these issues on the formation day It is said that this is because the TRS government is maintaining friendly relations with the Centre.

Though, a major portion of the bifurcation of employees is over,  several issues mentioned remain pending. GOI recently agreed to set up All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the State. Though, the Centre gave financial clearance for AIIMS, it is yet to visit the State to finalise the land for the premier institute.
