Draft proposal scrapping zonal system in Telangana ready

Chief Secretary SP Singh to hold a meeting with DGP’s political secretary among others.

HYDERABAD: The draft proposal for scrapping the zonal system is ready and state government officials will hold a meeting soon to finalise the rules.

“We have prepared the draft for scrapping of the zonal system. A meeting will be convened by chief secretary SP Singh and it will be attended by the DGP’s political secretary and general administration department (services) secretary,” sources in the Secretariat told Express on Friday. Scrapping of the zonal system had been announced after the reorganisation of the districts.

Opposition parties and the TJAC opposed  the move, saying that such a move would be detrimental to the interests of job seekers. “An in-principle decision has been taken by the CM to scrap the zonal system. We are assessing the repercussions after the cancellation of the system. A preliminary draft will be placed before the meeting of the chief secretary,” an official said.

District-level recruitments

As of now, the Presidential Order stands good for all the recruitments in the state. There is no problem with the recruitment to state-level posts but district-level posts like teachers, VROs and VOAs have not been filled so far.

The government is unsure on filling of district-level posts, whether to take old district or the new district as a unit. “If the district-level posts are notified without scrapping the zonal system, then the job aspirants may challenge it in courts,” sources said.
