HYDERABAD: If all goes as planned, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate 105th session of the Indian Science Congress(ISC) which is to be held at Osmania University between January 3 and 7 next year.

The tentative theme of ISC is Science and Technology -- Reaching the Unreached. The programme will see the participation of at least 25 Nobel laureates and a total of 25,000 scientists and academicians including 300 international scientists.

The event will also coincide with the centenary celebrations of the university. This will be the seventh time that the conference will be held in the city and for the sixth time it will be held in the university campus.
“OU will be a platform for science enthusiasts and students from across the country to meet with international scientists and Nobel laureates at ease,” Prof Achyuta Samantha, general president of the Indian Science Congress Association(ISCA) and founder of KIIT university noted.

A series of events will include women’s science congress, children’s science congress, a science exhibition. There will also be sessions on issues related to science including rise of cancer, diabetes and asthma that where specialists from the field will deliver lectures.

“These sessions will not only be informative but also provide a platform for everyone to share their ideas and interact with experts, including Nobel laureates. Students from various backgrounds can also present ideas and innovations at the Congress,” said Ashok Saxena, former general president of ISCA.

The Ashok Saxena committee formed this year will be overseeing the activities of the 105th Congress.
S Ramachandran, vice chancellor of Osmania University, while expressing happiness in hosting the event said that a number of things are still in progress.

“The current theme too might be developed into something more specific. We are also seeking suggestions from academics on the themes and topics to be discussed during the Congress. The key objective is to popularise science among the masses while focusing on innovation and research,” he said.
