73 tribals, 25 SC families given pattas in Telangana

Around 25 SC families in Gopalagiri village in Mahabubabad district were given pattas for their lands on Friday.

HYDERABAD: Around 25 SC families in Gopalagiri village in Mahabubabad district were given pattas for their lands on Friday. The distribution of pattas was a part of correcting and digitalising land records.

Speaking at the land records kits distribution programme, NALSAR University registrar
V Balakista Reddy said this initiative was appreciated by NITI Aayog.

Advisor to Centre for Tribal and Land Rights, NALSAR, Sunil Kumar said this was a low cost model to modernise the land records and can be scaled through Digital India Land Records Modernisation Programme across the country.

Land in possession, name in the record and title documents in hand is a must to have secure rights over land. However, majority of the villagers do not have one or more of these three essential ingredients of secure land rights. To secure rights to SCs and STs over their lands, six villages in Mahabubabad and Jangaon were selected for giving land pattas under pilot basis.

About 4,000 land problems and 11,000 incorrect entries were identified and rectified in the land records in these six villages. So far, 73 tribals in Puttalabhupati village and 25 SC families in Gopalagiri village got pattas, according to a release by NALSAR University of Law on Thursday.
