Four killed after lorry rams stationary van in Telangana

Four persons, including a bridegroom, died while another eight suffered injuries when the van in which they travelling  was hit by a lorry on the outskirts of Mothey mandal headquarters.

NALGONDA: Four persons, including a bridegroom, died while another eight suffered injuries when the van in which they travelling  was hit by a lorry on the outskirts of Mothey mandal headquarters in Suryapet district in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Venkata Sesha Sai’s (22) marriage was to be held on  Wednesday night at Charla village in Khammam district  The other deceased include Damodar (35), T Satyanarayana (65) and N Akhil (4) all belong to Kukatpally in Hyderabad. 

A DCM van carrying 40 members of the marriage party left  Hyderabad at 12.30 to Charla. After reaching Mothey at 3.30 a.m they parked their vehicle on the roadside when a lorry hit it from behind killing the bridegroom on the spot. 


Three others, who were seriously injured died while being shifted to hospital.  The other injured are being treated at Suryapet Area Hospital. Their condition is stated to be stable.

District collector Surendra Mohan, SP Parimala Noothan and DSP Sunitha Mohan visited the accident site and also met the injured persons at the hospital. Chivvemla Police registered a case and are investigating.


20 hurt as van overturns

In another incident, about 20 persons were injured when a DCM van carrying a marriage party overturned at Bibinagar village tank bund in Yadadri Bhuvanagairi district on Wednesday.


According to police, the party was proceeding to Yadagirigutta from Secunderabad for the marriage  of one K Upender on Wednesday morning.  About 30 persons, including the bridegroom were travelling in the DCM van. 


On reaching Bibinagar village tank bund the driver of the van lost control and the vehicle overturned.  All the injured persons were shifted to Bhuvanagiri Area Hospital. Bibinagar police registered a case.
