Telangana: Revanth Reddy plans padayatra for sake of ‘throne’

As per the tentative plan, the yatra will be organised for four to five months at a stretch covering 2,000 km and touching all the key places connected with Telangana agitation.

HYDERABAD: A Revanth Reddy has now decided to undertake a padayatra through the length and breadth of the state to establish himself as a strong mass leader. By doing so, he also wants to emerge as a major contender for the CM post from the grand old party. After getting the nod of AICC high command, the young leader will announce the schedule of his padayatra, which he is likely to begin in December. The route map is being drawn in a such a manner that he will cover at least 90 Assembly constituencies. As per the tentative plan, the yatra will be organised for four to five months at a stretch covering 2,000 km and touching all the key places connected with Telangana agitation.

En route, he will console the kin of farmers who committed suicide because of financial crisis, and will interact with those who lost their means of livelihood as the government “forcibly” acquired their lands for various projects.“Revanth has several plans to revive the Congress by constantly exposing the failures of the TRS government. He wants to hold meetings with students at each university similar to the way YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had conducted Yuva Bheri in Andhra Pradesh to achieve special category status for the truncated state.

He has also plans to organise exclusive meetings with different sections of people to highlight the unfulfilled promises made to each section of people by CM K Chandrasekhar Rao,” a close aide of the Kodangal MLA told Express. The source further disclosed that as some senior leaders in the Congress view him as a potential threat to them within the party, Revanth, therefore, first wants to settle himself in the grand-old party by establishing cordial relations with all who are aspiring for CM post. Once he is accepted, the young leader will vigorously hold meetings in every nook and cranny of the state.
In fact, Revanth had proposed to undertake padayatra when he was in the TDP but deferred the decision as he was about to join the Congress.

Key party post likely
Though there is no clarity on what post Revanth will be given in TPCC, his followers expect that he may get a key post. “As per information received from party leadership, Revanth might be appointed as TPCC working president along with present working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka or TPCC Election Campaign Committee head. Things will unfold when AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi visits the state. Rahul is scheduled to address a public meeting in Mahabubabad district on Nov 18,” he said
