MAHABUBABAD : In a significant development, a police team reportedly nabbed six members, including a dalam commander of New Democracy (Chandranna Dalam) in Gangaram mandal on Thursday evening. However, police remained tight-lipped on the issue and are neither confirming nor denying the arrest. Sources said dalam commander Jampanna is among the arrested. A team led by Gudur CI Ramesh Naik, on a tip off that New Democracy (Chandranna Dalam) members were moving with arms in the Gangaram mandal area, reached there and surrounded them near a river belt and asked them to surrender, which they did. It is learnt that all the six have been taken to a secret location for interrogation.

Meanwhile, sympathisers of  New Democracy (Chandranna Dalam) staged dharnas in Mahabubabad and Yellandu in Khammam district, demanding the police to produce the arrested members in the court. They claimed that the police might encounter them.  All India Kisan Morcha state general secretary Mandala Venkanna demanded the government to direct police to immediately present them before court as he fears about their safety. “Police had not brought them to city,” he said.
