HYDERABAD: Telangana Joint Action Committee chairman M Kodandaram has called upon advocates in the state to provide legal aid to the persons displaced from various project sites who filed petitions in courts seeking justice for them.

Addressing a gathering of Telangana lawyers at the Somajiguda Press Club here on Sunday, the TJAC chairman appealed to them to question the anti-people policies of the state government.

“Your contribution to the statehood movement was notable and outstanding. You enlightened us on relevant laws to undertake agitations to achieve statehood. Now, you need to participate in the reconstruction of our state by providing legal assistance to people’s organisations which are questioning the undemocratic decisions and disastrous policies of the state government,” he said.

During the meeting, which was presided over by Telangana Advocates JAC convener B Konda Reddy, Kodandaram spoke on some of the controversial decisions taken by the state government and appealed to advocates to come to the rescue of project oustees who are seeking fair compensation for their lands.

Konda Reddy demanded that the government take steps to fill all vacant posts in the law department and sought issuance of health cards and allotment of house-sites to practising advocates in the state.
