Cong makes all-out effort to ‘reclaim’ Metro credit

In a bid to acquaint people with its contribution in getting the Hyderabad Metro Rail project started, bringing the Godavari waters to the city, and other infrastructure projects in the state capital

HYDERABAD: In a bid to acquaint people with its contribution in getting the Hyderabad Metro Rail project started, bringing the Godavari waters to the city, and other infrastructure projects in the state capital including International Airport and Outer Ring Road (ORR), which helped the city attain the global city tag, Congress has now decided to print booklets and publish pamphlets.

“Hyderabad city has been transformed into a world-class city only because of the infrastructure facilities developed by the previous Congress governments from 2004 to 2014 in the erstwhile united state. All the prestigious projects including the present Metro Rail were planned, started and executed by the then Congress government. But, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and his son KT Rama Rao are projecting as if all these projects are their government’s achievements,” TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy said.

Ahead of the launch of the Metro Rail in Hyderabad on November 28, in order to prove the fact that the project was designed, sanctioned and executed by the then Congress government, TPCC spokesperson Sravan Dasoju gave a power point presentation at Indira Bhavan on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, Uttam alleged that TRS government had been into the habit of claiming credit for projects taken up by previous Congress governments.

For instance, the state government’s flagship Mission Bhagiratha project was nothing but Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Sujala Sravanthi, started by the then Congress government.

“After becoming the Chief Minister, KCR further delayed the project for over three years and finally agreed to implement the original plan. Why did KCR conveniently alter his proposal of changing alignment? Metro Rail would have become operational long ago if it had not been delayed by KCR,” Uttam said.

Terming 2004-2014 as the golden decade for Hyderabad, he said over `1 lakh crore was spent on several prestigious projects in the city by the then Congress governments during that period.
They included Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (`2,478 Cr), 158-km Nehru Outer Ring Road (`6,696 crore), 11.6 km PVNR Expressway (`600 crore) and Godavari Drinking Water Supply project (`3,375 crore).

He said all three phases of Krishna Drinking Water Supply project were initiated during the Congress regime.

Get `4,000 crore from KCR: Jaipal Reddy
From ex-Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy to Congress seniors V Hanumantha Rao, Marri Sashidhar Reddy, J Geetha Reddy, Ponnala Lakshmaiah and others attentively listened to the speech of Chief Minister KCR, that too at Gandhi Bhavan.
A video clipping of KCR’s aggressive speech in 2014 opposing laying of metro line through Sultan Bazaar and other heritage sites in Hyderabad was played.
While referring to the speech, Jaipal Reddy said Metro Rail works got delayed for three years and additional burden of `4,000 crore was imposed on people only because of KCR’s acts. Hence, the Congress veteran felt that the entire money should be collected from KCR.
