Leap of faith: Revanth to quit MLA post

TDP to expel the leader once green signal comes from party supremo N Chandrababu Naidu, who is abroad now

HYDERABAD: The curtain is to be finally drawn over the extended political drama of TTDP MLA Revanth Reddy’s changing loyality. With TDP leadership getting ready to act against Revanth given his decision to jump to Congress, the issue seems to be finally reaching the ultimate end. The young leader too has firmed up his mind to resign from the party membership and quit his MLA post to facilitate bypoll to Kodangal Assembly seat, which he represents now.

According to sources, the TDP leadership may take action against Revanth either on Tuesday or Wednesday as the party seniors are of the view that further dillydallying on the issue might damage TDP’s image. “We have already urged party supremo N Chandrababu Naidu to expel Revanth immediately as his continuation in the party might give scope to the argument that our party leadership is not able to act against him. Our politburo recommended Naidu to not give an appointment to Revanth. We are awaiting green signal from Naidu, who is abroad, for Revanth’s expulsion,” a politburo member of the TDP said on Monday.

Following the rumours of the Yellow party deciding to show the door to Reddy, the Kodangal MLA is understood to have decided to submit his resignation to the party membership. “The brickbats hurled by TDP AP MLC Payyavula Keshav against Revanth are clear indications that the party leadership is getting ready to expel him. Revanth is of the view that Keshav had openly criticised him at the behest of Chandrababu Naidu. Following this development, our leader is not sure of getting an audience with the TDP supremo to explain his version. Hence, he is preparing himself to call it a day in TDP,” a close associate of Reddy told Express. “Revanth will make his next move depending on the developments that take place from the TDP side on Tuesday,” the source added.

End of term from State Assembly

It is learnt that the Kodangal MLA is also considering the idea of submitting resignation from the membership of State Assembly in order to pave way for a bypoll for the seat. According to sources, since he earlier vociferously demanded resignation of MLAs who had shifted their loyalties to ruling TRS after winning on TDP and Congress tickets in the 2014 polls, Reddy is of the view that he continuing in the legislator’s post after quitting TDP is not ethically correct. “A final decision with regard to resigning from the MLA post will be taken soon after his exit from the TDP,” the source added.

TDP starts listing possible defectors

With Reddy’s exit from TDP being certain, the Yellow party leadership has started listing out the names of its leaders, who might quit the party along with the young leader. Apart from ex-minister A Uma Madhava Reddy, ex-MLAs including D Anasuya alias Seethakka and Vem Narender Reddy, party official spokesperson Sathish Madiga and M Sathyam are said to be among those who might join Congress along with Reddy
