‘Recycling’ of sheep going on unabated in Adilabad district of Telangana

he brokers purchase sheep from the beneficiaries in Adilabad and Nirmal districts and send them to border areas of Maharashtra.

ADILABAD: There seems ‘recycling’ of sheep by brokers has been going on unabated in erstwhile Adilabad district. It is learnt that brokers have been procuring sheep, which were distributed to beneficiaries under government scheme, at a low price and reselling the same to authorities for redistributing them to other beneficiaries at a high cost.  Thus, the ‘recycled’ sheep are not only filling the broker’s coffers but also adding to the numbers claimed by the authorities.

Recently, Mancherial police seized 62 sheep from a lorry being transported to Jagtial district. The brokers purchase sheep from the beneficiaries in Adilabad and Nirmal districts and send them to border areas of Maharashtra. The official teams visiting the neighbouring state end up buying the ‘recycled’ sheep.
Last year, animal husbandry officials found 30 units of sheep missing during an inspection in the district. It was also learnt that the officials collected Aadhaar cards of the beneficiaries but a few of them did not match.

430 subsidised sheep seized
Nalgonda: Police seized three DCMs and recovered about 430 sheep in Nalgonda district on Tuesday. Police recovered the sheep and arrested eight persons in this regard. The accused were trying to shift the sheep to Macharla.
