Telangana's Konda Pochamma reservoir work resumes after protests

SIDDIPET: Work on the construction of Konda Pochamma reservoir resumed on Tuesday with the talks between oustees and Gajwel RDO Vijayender Reddy yielding positive result.Works relating to Konda Pochamma reservoir was stalled for the last ten days after protest from oustees.

In Gajwel, the revenue divisional officer gave a clear assurance to oustees that the layout of homes promised to oustees at Tunki Bollaram village was being readied and chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao would lay the foundation of the housing colony within a week. He also assured the farmers, who gave their lands for the reservoir project, that the compensation would be paid soon.

The villagers that Mulugu police sub-inspector Veeranna was harassing the youth of the village and threatening to invoke PD Act against them, and demanded his immediate transfer. If the SI was not transferred, they would stall the reservoir works again, they warned.

It is learnt that the RDO brought the villagers’ demand over the sub-inspector to the notice of the district collector. Later, the collector held talks with police higher officials and the Mulugu SI was transferred to Jagadevpur and the Jagadevpur SI Srisailam to Mulugu.
