Nine killed in car accident at Wanaparthy district of Telangana

Of the two vehicles, one was going to Kothakota from Hyderabad and the other was proceeding to Hyderabad from Kurnool.

WANAPARTHY:Nine persons including three women were killed and two others are battling for life when two cars collided head-on near Kanimmeta village of Kothakota mandal in Wanaparthy district on Wednesday morning.

The mishap occurred on the National Highway-44 near Kanimetta village around 8.30 am. Of the two vehicles, one was going to Kothakota from Hyderabad and the other was proceeding to Hyderabad from Kurnool.

The incident occurred when a tyre of one of the cars, coming from Kurnool, went flat and the driver lost control over the vehicle. The speeding car then rammed the road divider and flung on to  the other side of the road hitting a car coming from the opposite direction. This led to head-on crash killing seven people on the spot while four more were severely injured.

Of the injured, two died while undergoing treatment at Mahbubnagar Government Hospital, whereas the condition of the remaining two persons was said to be critical. A total of 11 people were travelling in the two cars when the accident happened.

There were six persons in the cab which was going to Kothakora from Hyderabad.  All of them were fruit vendors in Hyderabad. They belonged to Madanapuram, Amarachintha and Atmakoor villages near Kothakot of Wanaparthy district. They were going to their  villages to attend Yellamma jatara.The second ill-fated vehicle, coming from Kurnool, was carrying five persons, most of them belonged to Kurnool.
