HYDERABAD: Keeping your head cool will have a literal connotation to it from now, as a Hyderabad-based start-up has developed an ‘air-conditioned helmet’ which can help keep your head cool.
This helmet has been designed keeping in mind industrial workers who work in high-temperature environments.

The start-up - Jarsh - is owned by three engineers, Kausthub Kaundinya, Sreekanth Kommula and Anand Kumar, from a city-based private engineering college. The start-up was incubated first in 2016 and later incubated at Indian School of Business. They are now being supported through mentorship and other ways by Telangana government owned Research and Innovation Circle of Hyderabad (RICH).Kaundinya said the Indian Navy and a private cement manufacturing company have bought 5 and 3 air-conditioned helmets from them respectively, to test them.

Speaking at the first anniversary celebration of RICH held as part of BioASia-2018 in Hyderabad, Kaundinya announced that the start-up will donate 20 of these helmets to the Hyderabad traffic police and Hyderabad Metro Rail. The start-up has already set up a manufacturing plant in Medchal that can manufacture about 1,000 helmets a month. It now plans to develop a similar helmet but for two-wheeler motorists. The helmet costs around `5,500 a piece.
