HYDERABAD: The ongoing earthwork of the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scheme has come to a halt due to heavy rains in the project area for the last two days. However, some important works like concrete and barrage works are going on without any interruption. According to sources, the concrete work on Medigadda barrage is going without hindrance.

The Sundilla barrage work and the concrete work too are going on as per schedule.“But, the earthwork has been stopped due to the heavy rains and slush at all the sites of the projects,” official sources said on Monday. The Sundilla barrage gate work too has been affected.

Due to the slush, trucks could not move to the project sites. After the rains recede, it will take three or four days to resume the earthwork for “hotting zone” using black cotton soil. Though black cotton soil is available near the project sites, the trucks could not travel in the slush caused by rains. While dams and reservoirs on the Godavari are getting water, those on the Krishna are still dry.
