KHAMMAM: Officials in Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) have announced that they would upgrade the electricity distribution system in the company’s colonies due the plan to install air conditioners in all employee quarters.    As the addition of air conditioners will cause an increase in power demand, the company has decided to convert the existing single - phase system to a three - phase system.

Chairman and managing director of SCCL N Sridhar said that officials recently surveyed some colonies and came to the conclusion that over 15,000 new transformers will be needed in its colonies throughout the state. He said that officials concerned have been asked to expedite the process and were currently procuring other related implements such as wires and switch boards. He added that work had begun in some places already. In the first phase, around 10,000 houses will be provided air conditioners. In total, the company has over 51,000 houses in colonies spread out over the four erstwhile districts of Khammam, Warangal, Adilabad and Karimnagar.
