HYDERABAD:  With the success of the sheep distribution scheme, now the Animal Husbandry department has decided to distribute buffaloes on 50 per cent subsidy at an estimated cost of Rs 800 crore. “Around 2.17 lakh dairy farmers will benefit with the distribution of buffaloes,” Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav told reporters here on Saturday. Each buffalo unit would cost around `80,000. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has already signed the related file for distribution of buffaloes. The buffalo units will be distributed to farmers, who supply milk to Vijaya dairy.

 “The government has been giving `4 per litre as an incentive to dairy farmers, while collecting milk from them. We have released `50 crore incentive dues to be given to farmers,” Srinivas Yadav said. The Minister said the government would release 80 crore fish seedlings in minor irrigation tanks this year and would take up scampi ( fresh water prawn) cultivation on an experimental basis in nine waterbodies.
