HYDERABAD: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) today alleged Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao 'failed' to make proper representation with the Centre on major issues concerning the state.
Rao, during his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, adopted a non-serious approach to issues which were part of major electoral promises, TPCC chief spokesperson Dasoju Sravan said in an open leter.
The chief minister was in Delhi today to attend the Niti Aayog governing council meet.
According to a release from TPCC, Sravan sought a clarification from the Chief Minister for "not getting any positive response" from the Centre on increase in reservation quota for Muslims and Scheduled Tribes.
He said a Bill was passed in the Telangana Assembly in April 2017 to increase the quota for Muslims to 12 per cent and 10 per cent for ST category.
The Bill was also sent to the Centre for approval.
However, no effective representation was made with the Prime Minister so far and consequently this major electoral promise remained unfulfilled, Sravan said.
The Congress leader said Rao's meeting the Prime Minister lacked a serious approach and accused the TRS government of failing to exert pressure on the Centre on issues like Railway Coach Factory, a steel plant at Bayyaram, tribal university and national institutions which were promised in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014.
He said the failure to get any of these projects shows the inefficiency of Rao and his government.
Sravan also charged the NDA government has failed to extend any assistance to Telangana farmers so far. Rao did not even question the Prime Minister on why his government 'failed' to pay Minimum Support Price or implement recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission.
