Ryots climb electric poles, demand compensation

The farmers claimed that two years ago they parted with their lands and few of them got compensation and rest have not received so far.

JANGAON: Five farmers, including three women, who lost their lands at the cost of the construction of 400 KV sub-station, climbed high tension cable poles demanding compensation near Champak Hills in Vadakonda village of Jangaon Mandal on Monday. However, they came down on the request of the police officials. They submitted a memorandum to Jangaon DCP Malla Reddy as the district collector was not available.

The farmers claimed that two years ago they parted with their lands and few of them got compensation and rest have not received so far. “We have been bringing the matter to the notice of district administration on a regular basis but the government was not taking measures to get them compensation,” a farmer who lost his land, said.

However, the officials alleged that they have paid compensation to those who gave lands for the  sub-station. They stated that of the 25 persons whose land were taken, few were assigned lands. As the land belongs to the government, the then district collector Sri Devasena decided not to pay compensation for assigned lands. Since then the people who bought lands from assigned land beneficiaries have been agitating as they not only lost the land but also money.

Sources stated that differences between district collector Devasena and local MLA M Yadgiri Reddy was the reason for the land losers not getting enough compensation. As the MLA was supporting the farmers, the district collector decided not to pay compensation to assign lands.
