Journalist kills wife, daughters; ends life over debts

A journalist working for Telugu newspaper Andhra Bhoomi ended his life after strangulating his two daughters and wife in Siddipet on Thursday.

SIDDIPET : A journalist working for Telugu newspaper Andhra Bhoomi ended his life after strangulating his two daughters and wife in Siddipet on Thursday. The deceased have been identified as Hanumanth Rao, his wife Harika (32), and daughters Dikshasree (05) and Shailasree (03).According to Siddipet ACP Rajeshwar, Haumanth Rao worked for a Telugu daily and also had a side business to make ends meet. However, two of his business partners reportedly cheated him thus bringing upon him the burden of heavy debts. Rao was reportedly depressed since the past few months over the increasing pressure from the lenders, and on Thursday, the journalist took the extreme step. 

Cops also found a suicide note on Hanumanth’s body which established the reason behind the suicide. In the note, he had mentioned that his employees Prabhakar and Mamatha had duped him of `7.80 lakh which pushed him into financial debts. He also mentioned that one Kanakaiah from Siddipet was pressuring him for returning the money and had threatened him of kidnapping his children. 

According to cops, on Thursday he strangulated his two daughters with rope while they were asleep, and later strangulated his wife. Thinking her to be dead, Rao made phone calls to his relatives and asked them to come to his home. Later, he hanged himself. When relatives reached the home, they found the doors locked from inside. As they entered the house after breaking open the door, they found that Rao’s wife Harika was still alive. She was immediately shifted to a hospital. However, she died while undergoing treatment.
