Rs 1.75 crore cash seized from poll-bound Telangana

HYDERABAD/KHAMMAM: An election static surveillance team, in coordination with the police, seized Rs 1 crore from a car at Enkoor mandal headquarters check post on Monday.

The money was being transported from Konijerla mandal headquarters to Manugur. The seized cash and the vehicle have been moved to Enkoor police station. Meanwhile, AP Grameen Vikas Bank claimed that the money was being transported from its branch in Konijerla to that in Manugur.

Meanwhile city police detained a person identified as Pawan Vyas who was found with Rs 60 lakh case at Shahinayathgunj. The accused was found transporting the cash without valid documents as proof of transaction. Police suspect that he was a hawala operator (money launderer).

In another incident, a person named Ramachander was detained by police for carrying Rs 4.85 lakh in cash by Jubilee Hills police. In a third incident, police took custody of a man named Tiwari for carrying Rs 9.97 lakh cash in Jubilee Hills.
