HYDERABAD: A day after directions were issued to TPCC leaders to complete selection of candidates for Lok Sabha elections by February 20, senior leaders in Congress and the party members have started submitting their applications along with their bio-data on Sunday.
More than 25 leaders submitted their applications on the first day and the deadline for submitting the applications is Tuesday.
After TPCC Election Committee shortlists the candidates, the list will be forwarded to the party high command for scrutiny.
Among those who submitted their applications were Bellaiah Naik and former Union minister Balram Naik from Mahabubabad constituency, Mallu Ravi and Satish Madiga from Nagarkurnool, senior leader V Hanumantha Rao from Khammam and Patel Ramesh Reddy from Nalgonda.
All India Kisan Congress vice chairman M Kodanda Reddy and Vangala Swamy Goud from Bhuvanagiri, and Indira from Warangal also submitted their credentials on the first day.
On Saturday, AICC president Rahul Gandhi held meeting with PCC presidents from all over the country, where the directions to shortlist candidates were issued. Besides, instructions were issued to Publicity and Campaign Committees to begin their work.
The party office, Gandhi Bhavan, witnessed protest by members of the party when they were not issued tickets to contest Telangana State Assembly Elections-2018. Since there will be heavy competition for tickets to contest the Lok Sabha elections too, similar protests might be witnessed again.
