SANGAREDDY: The entire village of Islampur on Tuesday grieved with Saroja, a divorcee, when her daughter Vaishnavi’s (12) body was brought to the village. Vaishnavi, who was seriously injured in the recent train-school bus collision near Masaipet village in the district and was admitted in the Yashoda Hospital in Secunderabad, succumbed to the injuries earlier in the day.

While six other children from the village - all students of the Kakaitya Techno School (KTS) at Toopran like Vaishnavi - had died on the spot in the train-school bus smash-up on July 24,  Vaishnavi survived the accident but landed in hospital in a serious condition. And poor Saroja has been pleading with God for her daughter’s speedy recovery since that day.

But with the God apparently ignoring her plea, she lost her daughter. When she returned to the village with Vaishnavi’s body on Tuesday she was inconsolable. And almost all the villagers who came to offer their condolences and console her, themselves broke down.

While the government has announced a compensation of Rs 7 lakh each to the bereaved families, some political leaders too have offered monetary help to these families. Khammam MP Srinvas on Tuesday doled out Rs 50,000 to each such family on behalf of the YSRC.

Meanwhile, Harika and Harini, daughters of former SI of  Chegunta Vinayak Reddy and students of 6th and 7th class in the KTS, visited Islampur, Kistapur, Gundreddypally and Venkatayapally on Tuesday and handed over Rs 5,000 to each of the bereaved families.
