Kumaraswamy watches over Radhika’s Sweety comeback

Former chief minister and JD(S) supremo HD Kumaraswamy’s second wife Radhika Kumaraswamy is set to sizzle on the silver screen again. Radhika, who is blessed with a girl child called Shamika, in her first innings as an actor stayed in the news for her on-screen roles and off screen affairs. Her marriage to Kumaraswamy was also a hush-hush affair. Radhika began her second innings by setting up her home production Shamika and producing her first film Lucky.  Busy with her comeback film Sweety, Radhika says, “Even when I was due for delivery, I would carry on with my dance practice. Though acting was at the back of my mind, the thought of motherhood would draw me back.”

Radhika is making her comeback under the watchful eyes of Kumaraswamy, who has produced several successful Kannada films before joining politics. Radhika had to seek his consent for her comeback. “When I started getting offers, I requested him to allow me to do at least one film. His only condition was that I should be part of decent films. He even sat with me and read a couple of scripts and approved of only two films: Sweety and Kodi Ramakrishna’s untitled film.” Looking forward to more performance oriented roles, Radhika says, “In Sweety, I have don a glamorous avatar, while Ramakrishna’s movie will be a tough test of my acting skills.” Juggling between the roles of a mother, homemaker and an actress, Radhika strictly follows just one guideline. “No shooting after 6 pm as I want to be with my little daughter. She usually gets scared if I am not around after sunset,” says Radhika and further adds, “Shamika, who has just turned three calls me akka (elder sister) and not amma.”

Radhika does not feel constricted by the constant security presence and opines, “Right now, my only aim is getting appreciation for my roles. Today, I feel like a complete woman with marriage and a lovely daughter. If I find success, I will continue. Otherwise I will be happy looking after my family and business.”
