Petition to Trace 'Missing' Toilet in Mettupalayam

A resident of Mettupalayam has petitioned District Collector, Archana Patnaik, to trace a ‘missing’ public toilet.

COIMBATORE: A resident of Mettupalayam has petitioned District Collector, Archana Patnaik, to trace a ‘missing’ public toilet, which exists in the municipality’s records.

According to the petition submitted by K Bhadran of Kendayur, on behalf of the residents, documents provided by municipal officials claim that a public toilet was built in Adhidravidar Colony, Kendayur, at a cost of Rs 1.90 lakh in 1998-99.

However, the toilet does not really exist, said Bhadran. The municipality started constructing a toilet there in 2011, but it was stopped after a court order was obtained by owners of land adjacent to the site. Nagarajan, councillor of Ward 24, in which Adhidravidar Colony falls, said the construction could not be continued due to negligence of officials.

Usharani, his wife, was the ward’s councillor when the ‘missing’ toilet was allegedly built there. “Construction of that toilet was stopped at the foundation stage,” he said. Nagarajan also said that the public toilet mentioned in the document might be another one in the same area. However, the petitioner Bhadran said that there was no other toilet in the ward.
