Actor Won't Party, will Clear Farmers' Dues

CHENNAI:  As the news and video of police thrashing a farmer in Thanjavur for not paying his loan dues went viral, actor and Nadigar Sangam general secretary Vishal has come forward to pay up the amount that the farmer owed the lenders.

“I don’t know this farmer personally, but I can understand what it feels to be a farmer who cannot repay his loans. So, the moment I saw him suffering, I decided to repay his loans,” the actor said.

Vishal, who came to know about the incident on Friday through a tweet, soon identified the farmer, G Balan, and assured him that he would repay his loans.

“All I have to do to help the farmer so that he can repay his debts is not to go for parties for four weekends,” quipped the actor, putting in perspective the trouble faced by the farmer. The actor added that he had decided to create a database to identify farmers who faced similar issues, and welcomed the initiative taken by his fans to create a common bank account where they can pool in money to help the farmers. Meanwhile, Balan expressed gratitude for the assistance offered by the actor.
