Bihar regiment to lead R-day parade as tribute

NEW DELHI: Paying tribute to the martyrs of the Uri attack, a marching contingent of 6 Bihar Regiment will be leading the next Republic Day parade. Seventeen soldiers of the regiment were killed in a pre-dawn fidayeen attack at 12th Brigade in Uri on September 18.

Army Headquarters’ decision to include a contingent of the regiment was approved by the Ministry of Defence, as the step will pay tribute to the regiment. The contingent will comprise 144 jawans, and will also participate in the ceremonial Army Day parade in Delhi cantonment. Besides, Bihar, a marching contingent of Sigh Light Infantry regiment will also participate in the Republic Day parade at Rajpath. The regiment’s Sepoy Mandeep Singh was beheaded in a BAT action at Machchal sector in J&K last month.
An officer in the defence ministry said that including both the regiment’s contingent in the parade will show solidarity with the families of the martyred jawans. Six marching contingents from the army will participate in the R-Day parade.
