Karnataka orders culling of 49 infected cows in Kolar farm

The Karnataka government has ordered culling of 49 cows infected with Brucellosis disease in MLA Varthur Prakash’s dairy farm in Kolar. The farm has about 1,000 cows. The state government was forced to act after villagers residing in the vicinity of the farm staged a protest demanding culling of the infected cows in his farm as they feared the disease would spread to cows in the surrounding villages. Animal Husbandry Minister A Manju announced the decision to cull the infected cows after a meeting with his department officials. The officials later visited Prakash’s farm to identify the affected cows.
