She likes to disrupt and disengage when things get too comfortable. At an age when people get into the trap of a secure 9 to 5 job or getting a fat paycheck, she decided to delve into the music arena, which is known to test patience. But music is not the only thing that has kept this clinical psychologist busy.

A singer-songwriter for her band Mosko, she has also been a model for high street brands and acted in Kaash, a film by an independent filmmaker that has been applauded at film festivals. So it isn’t a surprise when she says it’s difficult to choose what’s closest to her heart.

“For now, it is definitely music. I have found my sound,” Kavya says. She admits of losing track of time when she did modelling and acting, and will dive deep into music for now.

A realist by her own admission, she wants the music scene in India to work faster and better. If a child asks her if music will earn him bread and butter, Kavya says she would give him the real picture. “Having said that, I would say things are much better than ever,” she says.

She hails her peers and seniors for making music more accessible, creating the right kind of audience, and for being positive in the face of adversity.

“Indie music in India is not about sitting in a secluded room with a computer anymore. In a couple of years, things will look up,” she adds. So, she is an optimist, after all.

While Kavya continues touring with her band for festivals and gigs, she is also working on her solo work. Unlike her band, which is into experimental grime trance music, Kavya will drift more towards electronic. She is also learning music production.

“I will be able to release more music if I have the technical know-how,” she says. More power to her as she slowly turns into a one-woman-army.
