Not just any blue. It’s the French ultramarine blue that Amit Kapoor fancies. He doesn’t only use it abundantly in his paintings, but also looks for its splendour in the depths of Nature. Colours, at large, have a hypnotic effect on him, so much so, that he’s sharing it with the public now. As he raises the curtain on the second International Watercolour Society India Biennale called Harmony through Watercolours 2017, he brings in 30 nationalities and 450 artists to collaborate on the common turf of colours.

Exhibition, discussions, seminars and live painting demonstrations have been going on full swing at the event that started on December 9. People can ask questions on art techniques, colours, layering and more.

The highlight of the event is a 75 meters watercolour painting that hopes to make a record with the Face International World Record. This will be on the themes of Clean Delhi and Green Delhi and Smart City Delhi.

The painting event will take place in Central Park, Connaught Place. Painters including Atanur Dogan from Turkey, La Fe from Thailand, Agus Budiyanto from Indonesia, Helidon Doni Haliti from Albania and others will participate.

Kapoor has taken art closer to where it belongs—to the public. “Art was always meant to be democratic and it was centuries ago. Then it became the area of interest of the wealthy, and under their patronage, it became for a select few” he says sounding disappointed. Off late, it has again moved out of white boxed spaces. International Water Colour Society is trying its bit to be a drop in the ocean of this change. The exhibition will continue till December 14 at AIFACS.
