NEW DELHI: With Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant Burhan Wani’s killing providing a fertile ground to the terror groups for recruiting locals and inputs suggesting increased activities by jihadi groups, security situation in Jammu and Kashmir may deteriorate in coming months.

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has warned that more attacks are likely in Jammu and Kashmir in the coming months. Pakistan-based terror groups are stepping up movement and activities in South Kashmir and jehadi tanzeems from across LoC are seeking to push ultras in North Kashmir.

Quoting Intelligence inputs, CRPF chief K Durga Prasad said, “Movement and activities of terrorists have increased in South Kashmir, predominantly in Anantnag and Pulwama districts where HM Divisional Commander Zakir Rashid Bhat along with other HM cadres Altaf Ahmed Dar alias Kachroo and other unidentified terrorists were seen.”

Inputs also suggest that in POK, tanzeems are providing training to their cadres and probably, have trained 39 new recruits in Shawai Nallah and 10 terrorists in Downhill Camp. “They would now try to infiltrate these terrorists into North Kashmir, through Bandipora and Kupwara,” he said.

Reports from the ground suggest 16 new hideouts of Pakistan-based terror outfits of Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaishe-e-Mohammad and Hizbul Mujahideen in the Valley.

The Lashkar has five hideouts in Shopian (Magbal, Heff Shirmal, Awneera, Yaripora and Trenz) and two in Pulwama (Koil and Tahab). Likewise, HM has three hideouts in Awantipora-Dogripa, Dadsara and Bagpora which are also shared by LeT for their tactical requirements. In Kulgam, the HM and LeT maintain four hideouts. The JeM has two key hideouts in Aripal and Ladhu.
